Anthony Joshua’s Camp Pushes for Cardiff as Fury Fight Venue Takes Shape
— Afridiaspo Sports Desk
Anthony Joshua’s camp says Cardiff is the preferred location for a proposed Tyson Fury fight, though final date and event terms remain under discussion.
Anthony Joshua’s team says the British-Nigerian heavyweight is pushing for his proposed fight with Tyson Fury to be staged in the United Kingdom, with Cardiff’s Principality Stadium emerging as the leading venue under discussion.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said Joshua rejected a more lucrative New York option because his agreement specified a UK event and because he wanted the long-awaited fight in front of British supporters.
What is confirmed—and what is not
Cardiff is being discussed, but reporting on the event still includes unresolved details. Proposed December dates, broadcast arrangements and the possibility of a very late local start have circulated, yet the complete fight agreement and official event announcement remain outstanding.
That distinction matters in boxing, where high-profile negotiations can change after venues, broadcasters and sanctioning terms enter the final stage.
Why Cardiff is commercially attractive
Principality Stadium offers a retractable roof and a track record of hosting major boxing crowds. It also avoids some of the scheduling and curfew limitations associated with outdoor stadiums.
Joshua has previously drawn a huge audience in Cardiff. A Fury fight there would keep ticket access closer to the fighters’ core UK fan base while still serving a global broadcast market.
A major African-diaspora sports moment
Joshua’s Nigerian heritage has remained central to his identity and fan base. A fight of this scale would attract attention across Britain, Nigeria and the wider diaspora, while renewing discussion about how elite African-heritage athletes build global brands through international broadcasting.
Until promoters issue a final announcement, supporters should treat the venue and start-time reports as advanced negotiations—not a completed event schedule.
