Nigerian music star Burna Boy will headline the halftime show at the NFL’s first regular-season game in Paris, placing Afrobeats at the centre of one of American sport’s newest international showcases.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints are scheduled to play at Stade de France on October 25, 2026. Burna Boy’s appearance will return him to a venue he became the first African artist to headline in 2025.
African music inside a global sports strategy
The NFL is expanding its international calendar and pairing games with performers who already command audiences in host markets. Burna Boy’s mix of Afrobeats, hip-hop, reggae and R&B gives the league a bridge to African, French and global pop audiences.
His selection also reflects how African artists are moving beyond festival stages and award categories into major entertainment properties once dominated by U.S. and European acts. The performance will be carried live in France by France Télévisions and beIN Sports.
More than a halftime booking
For African music businesses, high-profile sports bookings can drive streaming, touring, merchandise and brand partnerships. They also introduce artists to viewers who may not regularly follow Afrobeats.
The NFL’s international entertainment programme includes performers across several cities and continents. Nigerian singer Ayra Starr is also connected to the league’s wider global halftime lineup, further showing the commercial weight African pop now carries.
The Paris booking does not mean the industry’s access problems are solved. African artists and their teams still face visa restrictions, touring costs and uneven bargaining power. But placements of this scale make it harder for global entertainment companies to treat African music as a niche market.
